The Kirkendall Public Library hosts an annual Family Fun Walk as the kickoff to their summer reading program. In 2013, the theme was dinosaurs. Participants were asked to walk around a nearby lake, stopping at stations along the route to learn more about dinosaurs. Prizes were given to everyone who collected a stamp from each station and completed the walk.

The dinosaur was a stock illustration purchase. The owl was also a stock illustration purchase, but customized to align with the theme of the walk.
