This is commissioned artwork for the box art of a board game with wooden pieces called "Travelers."
The developers specifically asked for a 1980s retro feel similar to the artwork one would see on the boxes of Atari video game cartridges.
The developers also asked to incorporate the design of the wooden pieces used in the game and a space theme. The domino-like rectangular pieces were made to look like ships, while the hexagon shaped "base" was designed to look like a space station.
